NZMPA News:
Constitutional reform
When the last NZMPA annual general meeting was held on November 18th, a motion was passed to review and rewrite our Constitution document. There were 2 reasons for the review:
- To give members and other stakeholders a clearer understanding of the function and objectives of the association.
- To realign the work of the association with the fast-evolving profession of marine pilots in New Zealand and around the world.
The review took place between November 2022 and February 2023 and a new draft has been written. The draft has been approved by the Executive committee and it now requires to be circulated amongst the membership for consultation and ratification.
On 1st May 2023, the new draft will be sent to all members for consultation. A 2-month consultation period will be allowed for members to submit any suggestions for changes to the document.
After the consultation period, any further amendments can be made prior to circulation amongst the membership again, such that a vote can be taken to adopt the new constitution prior to or at the next AGM in November 2023.
When you receive your copy of the draft, please take the time to read and digest the document and submit any comments or suggestions for improvement to vicepresident@nzmpa.org, or any other member of the executive committee.
