Maritime New Zealand publishes pilot transfer guidance

Maritime New Zealand has this month published its new Pilot Transfer Guidance. The publication is the product of a yearlong consultation with industry and aims to address the varying interpretations of SOLAS V/23, IMO Resolution A.1045, and Maritime Rule Part 53 that have been seen in recent years.

The target audience is New Zealand and foreign ship owners, operators, masters, crew, recognised organisations, marine pilots, and pilotage providers.

The guidance comprises:

  1. Introductory Guidance Note: A summary of intent which includes the latest IMO – IMPA Poster.
  2. Good Practice Guide: A single reference source and standard for the construction, rigging, management and maintenance of pilot transfer equipment against which ship’s arrangements can be inspected and measured.

The NZMPA Executive encourages all pilots to become familiar with this guidance and to promulgate it further to other teams within their organisations.

It can be downloaded from NZMPA.org/resources or from the Maritime New Zealand website.
